Manufacturer Roof Lodge
Like the CargoBear, Roof Lodge is one of Nakatanenga's own brands. There are hundreds of roof tent brands by now, every season a new wave of models washes onto the market and the next fashion with it. Our Roof Lodge was already there before the whole thing became a trend. We have been building roof tents for almost twenty years, and building is meant literally, because our tents are made in-house and not somewhere in China. And the name of the current series says it all: Evolution. A lot has changed in that time, but the tent has never followed a trend, only the demands of our customers.
Development and production happen in our own tent-building workshop, and every single step of the work passes through an additional quality check. There is a lot of attention to detail in this tent: the dense polycotton skin keeps the morning out until it is actually time to get up. The sun canopy stretches over its own frame and works like a safari roof with an insulating cushion of air. The honeycomb floor does not dent, even when kneeling in the tent, and the Saar-Schaum mattress is made from a single piece, so it rolls up when the tent folds instead of creasing. None of this shows up in a brochure photo, but it becomes noticeable by the third night on the road at the latest.
The family has grown over the years: the Evolution 2 as Basic or Extended with ground tent, each in 140 or 165 cm width, the Lightweight at just 38 kg for vehicles with limited roof load, and the Trailer Tent, which brings the roof tent feeling onto a trailer. Anyone who wants to know exactly why we use which fabric and which foam will find answers in full detail on our roof tent info page, including little physics lessons on condensation. We could not help ourselves!

Roof Lodge Trailer Tent – that roof tent feeling with all the space of a camping trailer Freedom begins where everyday life ends: in a meadow by a lake, at the edge of a forest, on a campsite or on the road during your next trip. The Roof Lodge Trailer Tent brings that special roof tent experience to a trailer – sleep up high, set up quickly, travel flexibly and enjoy significantly more space than in a traditional roof tent. The Trailer Tent is the ideal solution for anyone who wants to combine the comfort of a spacious tent with the practical flexibility of a car trailer. It is available either as a tent to be fitted onto an existing trailer or as a complete system including a car trailer. This means the system can be perfectly tailored to your own requirements – from an existing trailer project right through to a complete, ready-to-travel solution. Why choose a trailer tent? A roof tent on your vehicle is brilliant – but sometimes you just want more space, more storage and more flexibility. This is exactly where the Roof Lodge Trailer Tent comes in: the tent isn’t mounted on the vehicle’s roof, but on a trailer. This means you can still use your vehicle as normal, whilst the trailer can remain at the campsite as a comfortable base. Opening the tent door in the morning, letting in the fresh air, making your first coffee in the sheltered awning and starting the day outdoors – it’s precisely this feeling that makes the Trailer Tent so special. It’s not just a makeshift shelter, but a well-designed mobile home for when you’re on the move. Sleep just like in a roof tent – only with more space around you The sleeping area offers a comfortable sleeping space measuring 1.70 x 2.10 m, providing plenty of room for two adults and a child. Its raised position on the trailer creates that typical roof tent feeling: off the damp ground, well ventilated and comfortably sheltered. The high-quality 10 cm-thick cold foam mattress ensures a restful night’s sleep. It is manufactured in Germany, complies with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and offers significantly greater sleeping comfort than simple camping mats or thin standard mattresses. This turns a night in a tent into a truly enjoyable travel experience. Dimensioned sketch – side view Large awning for living, cooking and bad weather The awning supplied as standard is one of the major advantages of this system. Measuring 3.60 x 2.30 m, it creates a spacious, weather-protected extra space – ideal for cooking, sitting, getting changed, storing things or simply as a relaxing retreat when it’s windy or raining. Depending on the weather and your needs, the awning can be used in various ways: left off entirely, set up as an airy awning, or used as an enclosed extra room with side walls. The side walls feature an entrance and two large windows. These can be closed, opened or set up as a sunshade using the telescopic poles supplied. This creates exactly the kind of space you often miss when you’re on the road: a sheltered spot for everyday camping life – with light, fresh air and plenty of room to move about. Sleeping area, living and cooking area, and an additional awning, measuring 3.60 x 4.60 m in total. Quick to set up, sturdy and well-designed The main tent, which comprises a sleeping area as well as a living and cooking area, stands without any guy ropes. This makes setting it up particularly straightforward: park the trailer, unfold the tent, set it up – and your camp is ready. Only the additional awning requires appropriate guy ropes once it is fully set up. The sturdy steel frame ensures a robust construction, whilst the windows and entrances are fitted with mosquito nets. This allows fresh air into the tent whilst keeping mosquitoes and other insects out. This is a real bonus, particularly on warm summer evenings or on longer trips. Durable materials for real camping adventures The tent and the large awning are made from robust nylon tent fabric and are designed for camping, travelling and extended stays in the great outdoors. The tent floor is made from 450 g/m² PVC, whilst the transport cover is made from sturdy TPU tarpaulin. This ensures that the Trailer Tent is reliably protected from dirt, splashes and the elements during transport. The Roof Lodge Trailer Tent is handcrafted in Germany. It is manufactured to high quality standards in our own tent-making workshop. The result is a durable, high-quality trailer tent – built to last for many years of travel, camping and adventure. Complete system with car trailer In the complete system version, the Trailer Tent is supplied together with a suitable car trailer. In our design, the tent sits on the trailer’s side panels and is combined with a fully-enclosing cover. This creates a large, weather-protected storage space beneath the tent. This storage space offers room for everything you need to take with you on your travels: camping cookware, chairs, a table, sleeping bags, sports equipment, tools, clothing or other luggage. Despite the Trailer Tent, awning and accessories, the complete system still has a free payload of 375 kg. The trailer has a maximum authorised mass of 750 kg and is approved for speeds of up to 100 km/h. The complete system also comes with a ball-end protection system, two wheel chocks and four sturdy supports. These ensure the trailer stands securely and give you a peaceful night’s sleep – even away from designated parking areas. For car campers and roof tent enthusiasts, roof loads are often a (ge)important issue. If you take it lightly, you risk roof damage. But away from the play on words and towards the bare figures, because the trend is clear: the average dynamic roof loads of vehicles are falling. While the G-Class with 200 kg and the new Defender with up to 168 kg are still solid values, things go downhill pretty quickly after that. Even a new Land Cruiser J150 Prado only manages 80 kilos, and in the normal passenger car segment the average is closer to 60 kilos, with a downward trend. In addition to changes in vehicle statics due to lightweight construction and electrification, the increased use of sensors and assistance systems is probably responsible for this. And even if the values for a stationary vehicle are of course considerably higher, the critical range for commercially available roof tents is approaching. At Nakatanenga, we are reacting to this development at an early stage and have therefore developed the Roof Lodge Lightweight, an ultra-light roof tent which, with a total weight of only approx. 46 kg, weighs a record low on the scales or the car roof. Of course, there are no restrictions on the space, comfort and weather protection you are used to from our Roof Lodges. How does it work? What is the difference between the LIGHTWEIGHT roof tent and our EVOLUTION 2 folding tents? >>> Detailed explanations and a description of the points listed below can be found on our info page, which opens in a new window. >>> First of all, we use 100% Oxford nylon with ripstop for the skin of the Lightweight, an extremely strong but surprisingly light material that weighs in at only 102 g/m2. Compared to the 320 g/m2 on our Evolution 2, this is a reduction of a whopping 78%. The fabric of the tent skin and the sun awning of the Lightweight are identical, PU-coated on the inside and impregnated on the outside. This means that no compromises are made in terms of wind and rain protection. How can weight be saved on the roof when travelling with the roof tent? Further weight can be saved on the Roof Lodge Lightweight by choosing the mattresses. As an alternative to our one-piece standard foam mattress (60 mm, approx. 5 kg) and the optional 3D mesh mattress (approx. 3.5 kg), we also offer a self-inflating Kampa mattress with a thickness of 10 cm and a weight of approx. 5.5 kg. The 10 cm thickness of the air mattress has been chosen so that, with a lower total weight, a comparable lying comfort and similar insulation properties to the combination of foam mattress with mesh underlay are given. Last but not least, the aluminium ladder can be removed and transported inside the car, which reduces both the roof load and the overall height of the vehicle. On car ferries, for example, 10 cm less height can often make a money-saving difference. This item is bulky goods. The stated shipping weight differs from the actual item weight. The actual item weights are: Roof Lodge Lightweight with self-inflating mattress: approx. 47 kg. Roof Lodge Lightweight with standard mattress: approx 49 kg Roof Lodge Lightweight with standard mattress and 3D mesh underlay: approx. 52 kg Save weight during the journey and stow the following items inside the vehicle: Ladder: approx. 4.3 kg Self-inflating mattress: 5,2 kg Saar foam mattress: 5 kg (standard) and 7kg (hard) Saar foam mattress with 3D mesh underlay: 8kg and 10kg respectively On our roof tent information page, you’ll find plenty of useful information, practical tips, and other interesting content related to roof tents. Nakatanenga Evolution 270° awning, incl. two side panels, stone-grey On long journeys, camping holidays or a quick trip to the lake, the 270° roof awning from Roof Lodge turns every Landy, T5 & Co into a practical and, above all, quickly opened camp. Once you have found the perfect spot for the night or even the whole holiday, the awning fans out in no time at all from the left-hand side of the vehicle to far behind the rear of the vehicle, is then supported by four aluminium telescopic poles and tensioned with the ropes. With the help of flexible side wall tarpaulins that can be quickly attached, an optimal combination of weather protection and openness can be created. Two side panels are included. This creates an adaptable, dry, wind-protected and shaded area for cooking, eating, working and relaxing. The material of the awning is high-quality, PU-coated RipStop polycotton, a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The functional fabric is extremely tear-resistant, water- and dirt-repellent and, due to its relatively high weight of 280 g/m2, also produces significantly less fluttering noise in the wind. Our Roof Lodge awning, which weighs 16.8 kg (incl. side panels), can be mounted on the right and left of the vehicle's roof rack, making it ideal for covering crucial areas such as the driver's, passenger's, side and rear doors, depending on the vehicle model and size. The awning measures 4.35m in total length and covers 4.1m at the side and 2m at the rear (see drawing in the product images). The area of the awning covers approx. 9 sqm ². The awning is secured at the rear with the included tensioning strap. A 25 mm wide nylon strap guarantees stable lashing even with the most varied vehicle/roof rack configurations. Enjoy all-round freedom - certainly 270° of it - with the Roof Lodge awning from Nakatanenga. The maximum mounting height of the awning is about 2.20 meters. Available for either the right or left side Please note: This item is bulky goods. The stated shipping weight differs from the actual item weight. The actual item weights are: 270° awning: 14.4 kgSide parts (2 pcs.): 2,4kg Fixing material (screws, brackets, etc.) is included in the delivery and there are recesses on the aluminium rail for fixing. This can be used to attach the awning to the existing crossbar (min. 2 pcs!) or to the existing roof rack.

The Roof Lodge Evolution awning ... which can also be used on many roof tents from other manufacturers. The widespread term <awning> is somewhat misleading in itself, as it has always been more of a hanging tent in which you can quickly and easily store camping equipment such as a table and chairs, the little ones' toys and a pint of beer. This not only applies to tidying up in the evening, but also in the event of a downpour. What's more, the fact that these items are no longer immediately visible makes them a little safer from theft. We also like to refer to this awning simply as a <shower curtain>. This name also gives you an idea of the actual size of the hanging tents. This is always 120 cm in depth and 140 cm or 165 cm depending on the tent width. This makes them significantly larger than most showers, but still smaller than what many people imagine. However, if the roof tent is installed at a sufficient height, you have a space that can also be used comfortably for changing. These awnings were and are less suitable for use in bad weather. This results in a requirement profile for them that is completely different from that of the floor tents of the extended tents. As the awning's tent character is clearly in the background, we have given it some thought and completely redesigned it according to its use. They are now made from the same material that we already use for our LIGHTWEIGHT - T109 ripstop nylon with Oxford weave. This material is surprisingly strong for its surprisingly low weight of just 102 g/m² and is the obvious choice for use in an awning. As awnings, like ground tents, usually have to be transported in the vehicle, the pack size is not insignificant. The fact that the usual voluminous and heavy PVC groundsheet has been replaced by a thin and light tarpaulin means that the pack size of the awning can almost be described as tiny. Due to the type of use, elaborate window constructions are as pointless as spikes for ballerinas - nobody uses them. Of course, windows do have a right to exist in hanging tents; after all, you can not only see outside through them, they also let light into the tent. But this is where the T109 ripstop nylon comes into play again: this material has good light permeability, which puts the question of windows to rest once and for all. The entrance is usually located behind the ladder, which literally stands in the way of quickly stowing away the equipment. That's why we decided not to have an entrance. Some people will now say that Nakatanenga have definitely overshot the mark. But we simply questioned the design of the usual entrances with the entrance fabric, mosquito net and zippers and found that they were not necessary. Our awning therefore doesn't have an ENTRANCE, but of course there is an ACCESS - in fact several. The awning is fitted with zippers at all 4 corners. These can be used to separate the side walls from each other and thus not only determine the access as desired. You can also roll up one or all of the side walls. In the evening, for example, all you need to do is place the table and chairs on the tarpaulin, unroll the side walls and close the zippers. And the awning also offers real added value: the side tent walls also have two eyelets on the underside. The side walls can either be tensioned at an angle or extended using optional telescopic poles. This creates a rain-protected or shaded area of just under 5.5 by 1.2 meters. The awnings are suitable for all roof tents of the appropriate size that use the edge profiles shown on the Roof Lodge Evolution and LIGHTWEIGHT information pages. If you are not quite sure, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is not possible to use the awning and shoe bag at the same time. Note: The telescopic poles are NOT included in the scope of delivery.

Cozy, Warm, and Dry – Your Upgrade for Cool Nights in the Roof Lodge Evolution 2! Do you love adventuring with your Roof Lodge Evolution 2 roof tent but don't want to sacrifice comfort in cooler temperatures or on damp nights? Then our thermo inner tent is just the thing for you! More Warmth, Less Condensation – It's That Simple: The principle is as simple as it is ingenious: just like with proven outdoor clothing, we rely on the layering principle. The additional inner tent creates an insulating air layer and noticeably improves the climate inside your roof tent. Pleasant Warmth: The quilted three-layer material, with polyester fibers on the outside and thermal fleece on the inside, retains heat much more effectively in the tent. This makes even cold nights comfortably warm. Reduced Condensation: The extra layer helps to minimize the formation of condensation inside your roof tent, ensuring a more pleasant and drier sleeping environment. Easy Installation: The inner tent is a perfect fit for your Roof Lodge Evolution 2 (available for widths 140cm and 165cm) and can be easily attached to the tent poles with clips and to the mattress with straps. Practical Details: The ventilation openings of the inner tent are aligned with the windows of the outer tent and, together with the robust YKK zippers, ensure good ventilation options. Additional Sound Insulation: As a pleasant side effect, the material also dampens external noise, ensuring a quieter night. Convenient: Your roof tent can be closed even with the thermo inner tent attached. Make your Roof Lodge Evolution 2 even cozier with the thermo inner tent and extend your camping season! Get your upgrade now for maximum sleeping comfort, no matter where your next adventure takes you. Note: The thermo inner tent is washable at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Is the Nakatanenga thermal inner tent for Evolution 2 compatible with other roof tents? The answer to this question can only be a resounding yes and no: As you can clearly see, there are areas where the inner tent is slightly too large and there are areas where it is a little too short. This leads to it being raised at the sides and sagging slightly on the longitudinal axis. The fit is therefore not optimal for tents from other manufacturers, but we are talking about deviations in the order of just under 3cm (depending on the actual height of the poles). To avoid any misunderstandings: The thermal inner tent does NOT have a floor, even if the above illustration might give this impression. However, it is fixed with elasticated straps under the corners of the mattress.

Side panel for Nakatanenga Evolution2 Awning Roof-mounted car awnings like our EVO II are a great pieces of equipment if you want to turn your 4x4 or van into a quickly set up mobile camp. But proper protection from wind, weather, sun and unwanted attention comes only with the addition of side walls. Conditions vary from location to location and even throughout a single day: the sun is moving from east to west and the wind is changing directions, too. By the sea, it becomes a lot stronger in the evenings and carries dust, sand and the occasional shower. But aside from weather protection, the side tarps also create valuable privacy in crowded camp grounds and other popular locations. Our side walls come in pairs and are the best solution for all these challenges. Simply stick the velcro fasteners to the roof awning’s frame and fasten the tarps to the ground using the four included tent pegs. All of that is simply a question of minutes and if the wind, the sun or a new location demand a change in position you can easily swap the sidewalls to accommodate the situation. The two side wall tarps are made from high quality PU-coated RipStop polycotton, a blended fabric containing 65% polyester and 35% cotton. This highly functional material is extremely resistant to tearing, it is water and dirt repellent and due to its high specific weight of 280 g/ m2 the material will make less noise in the wind. The tarp’s inner side features a layer of aluminum to assist in regulating temperature and to diffuse and amplify low intensity light sources like candles, camping lanterns etc. Color:Stone gray. On expedition, on holiday or just for an afternoon at the lake. The basic version of the roof awning comes with two side panels. If you want to turn the awning into an enclosed storage area that is protected on all sides, you can order the two additional side sections here. Like the side walls already included with the awning, the two additional tarpaulins are made of high-quality, PU-coated RipStop polycotton, a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The functional fabric is extremely tear-resistant, water- and dirt-repellent and, due to its relatively high weight of 280 g/m2 , it also produces significantly less fluttering noise in the wind. It is aluminium-coated on the inside. This helps regulate heat and also ensures pleasant and effective use of existing light sources due to the diffusing reflection. The side tarpaulins are attached to the poles as required and can be lashed together. This means that when the awning is completely closed, there is hardly any surface for wind and weather to attack

Sense and purpose of an awning compact extension? Glare protection when the sun is low in the skyThe compact extension was developed directly from practical requirements - a nice formulation that in itself means nothing more than: "We were so annoyed and dazzled by the low sun one fine day that we wanted to remedy the situation." And already the initial question is actually fully answered. But that would only be half the truth. On the following picture you can see an awning without extension shown above: As the sun sinks (the same applies in the morning, of course - but for the sake of clarity we will limit ourselves here to the afternoon or evening situation), the light falls further and further under the awning. At a certain position of the sun, the light/shadow dividing line reaches the eye level of a seated person - from now on, the sun can dazzle until it sets. The illustration below shows an awning with a compact extension, which offers several advantages with its angled bracing: When the sun is high, a much larger area is shaded.Only when the sun is setting, the light/shadow dividing line reaches the eye level of a seated person. Here, of course, deviations are possible, since both the slope of the guy, the size of the person and his sitting position are influencing factors. But the most important thing is: You can see what's going on in your surroundings despite the glare shield! If the eyes and the lower edge of the compact extension are on a horizontal plane, then the view would extend exactly to the (ideal) horizon. If you compare that with a moderately braced complete front part, where the view is just between a few centimetres to a few steps - what a difference! What if the sun comes in from the side?Well, then the vehicle will probably have to be moved. But not with our new compact extension. All you have to do is unhinge it from the front, and you can attach it to the side in just a few easy steps. Voilà!But please note: The awnings have a uniform depth of two meters, but differ in their widths. Ideally it hit here all those who have a 200er awning. Owners of a 250 have three options: They simply allow the extension to protrude when used from the side - utility over beauty. You opt for a 200 compact extension - this does not detract from the function. You buy two compact extensions at once - a 250 for the front and a 200 for the side. Feel free to guess what we recommend ;-) Material:Made from our sun sail and awning fabric, a 280 gsm RipStop Polycotton (65% polyester / 35% cotton), metal coated on one side; water and dirt repellent impregnated;due to the comparatively heavy quality, significantly less flutter. Colour: stone grey (taupe) Our compact extensions are also suitable for use on the awnings of most other manufacturers. The only requirement is a free keder strip in the front profile of the awning or such must be retrofitted.

Extension strip for Evolution front and bottom tents The front and bottom tents of the EVOLUTION series are designed for a tent mounting height of up to 210 cm. If the roof tent is mounted at a higher height, then an extension strip should be used for these front or bottom tents, which compensates for the missing difference. The extension strip is simply zipped between the bottom pan and the underside of the tent sidewalls and compensates for a net difference of 20 cm. Of course, the zipper thus added is protected by a tarpaulin from direct rain. Please note:The awning (Basic) and floor tent (Extended) look very similar, so we ask you to measure the lower circumference of your tent, where the extension strip is used. Please give us the dimensions of the scope by phone before placing your order, so we can ensure that you receive the right extension strip. ☎ +49 9181 466 644 Thank you very much.

Roof Lodge Evolution Front Extension Arc Shape for Car Awning (Bag Awning). The extension is made from the same high quality material as the Roof Lodge Evolution canopy / awning and provides ideal sun, privacy and wind protection. The extension is simply pulled into the existing keder rail of the awning. The extension has a keder diameter of 6.5 mm and is therefore also suitable for many other awnings. The corners of the extension can be fixed to the ground with the pegs and ropes included in the delivery. The extended length of the extensions is always 200 cm, regardless of the width. Compared to standard awning extensions, this extension has a small curve at the outer end, so that the extension has ideal tension when stretched. This means that it flutters less and withstands stronger winds better. It can be tensioned at an angle or vertically! With an extension that reaches all the way to the ground, you usually feel quite isolated from the surroundings. No wonder, because a completely pulled-down side almost looks like an incomplete awning, but without offering the advantages of an awning. The length is always 200 cm for all of them Material:280 gsm RipStop polycotton (65% polyester / 35% cotton), PU-coated; water and dirt repellent; significantly less fluttering noise due to the comparatively heavy quality.
