The R380 manual 5-gear transmission was employed in 300Tdi’s and Td5’s, among others, in 4 revised variations between 1996 and 2006. The gearbox was named after the 380 Nm input torque for which it had been originally designed. After various improvements due to initial compatibility problems with the LT230T transfer box, the reliable R380 was in service in Defenders until EU environmental regulations required the upgrade to the Td4 engine with its 6-gear transmission.
We are offering high-quality rebuilt R380s exchange transmissions for 300Tdi’s and Td5’s. The quoted price includes a 200.00€ deposit for your old transmission. When you send in your old gearbox and it is in a good enough condition to be rebuilt, the deposit will be reimbursed.
If you send us your old gearbox, we will refund you the amount of 200.00 euros.However, the prerequisite for this is that the housing is in order and the gearbox can still be overhauled.

Winchester Gears Stage LT230
Winchester Gears Stage LT230 are improved versions of the standard Defender and Discovery transfer cases. Common sources of failure have been carefully analysed and effective solutions implemented.
Sleeved main housing
The bore of the intermediate shaft, which is prone to wear and oil leaks, is machined and fitted with a steel sleeve. In addition, the frequently damaged bearing bore of the main shaft was taken care of by fitting a cylindrical sleeve.
Intermediate shaft
The intermediate shafts that hold the gear in place often wear out, leading to gear noise and, in later 1.21 gear sets, total gear failure. the high performance shafts fitted are made from 17.4ph material to ensure a long service life.
High capacity oil pan
Available as an optional extra, this oil pan increases oil capacity by 0.6 litres and helps keep the transfer case cool and well lubricated.
Centre differential
Stage 1 : Features a heavy-duty one-piece cross shaft that replaces the weaker two-piece design, a common weak point.
Stage 2 : Incorporates an Ashcroft ATB Limited Slip Diff, a spiral design that optimises torque and drive distribution between the front and rear axles. This provides improved traction and eliminates the weakness of the standard unlocked centre differential, ideal for racing on low traction surfaces.
For this item, we charge an additional deposit of 300.00 euros for your current transfer case.
If you send us your old transfer case, we will refund you the amount of 300.00 euros.
However, this is subject to the condition that the housing is in good condition and the gearbox can still be overhauled.
