The cutlery's in a Tupperware box, the stove's shoved in the back left, the mugs are in some crate entirely elsewhere, right next to the tinned soup. And where the hell is the washing-up bowl again? Anyone seen the ladle? And did we even pack the tin opener? Having everything in one place would be nice. But simply throwing it all into one box, only for the first pothole to mix everything up again, doesn't really solve the problem either. That's why our team came up with something: a complete mobile outdoor kitchen for up to four people, neatly and securely packed into a 48-litre Transformer Box. A purpose-designed slot-in system keeps the equipment in place, so opening the box doesn't send half the kitchen tumbling out. Stove, pots, tableware, cutlery and accessories all have their own place and are quickly accessible when needed. The metal parts of the slot-in system are finished in a black, fine-textured powder coating. The robust surface handles everyday camping use well, wipes clean easily and does a good job of hiding fingerprints and the occasional splash of grease. And here's the clever part about the Transformer Box: the kitchen can be accessed from both the top and the front. Remove the lid to use the stove and work surface, or open the front to reach equipment stored lower down – without having to empty half the box first. The whole system sets up in just a few steps. The wooden lid becomes the worktop, and when more space is needed, the two side tables simply slot into place. Suddenly there's room for the stove, tableware, a few ingredients and the collapsible washing-up bowl. The kitchen reaches a comfortable working height when the box sits on top of two more Transformer Boxes (the food has to live somewhere too, right?) or on a tailgate, on a pick-up for example. Inside the Nakatanenga kitchen box is a complete set for up to four people: gas stove with piezo ignition, pot set, windshield and gas cartridge, plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery. Plus all the little things that somehow always get forgotten: tin opener, tea towel and washing-up bowl. In other words, the basic equipment for cooking, eating and cleaning up afterwards is all on board. The Transformer Box itself is moisture-resistant and easy to clean – a clear advantage on longer journeys and particularly in warm or humid regions. And once everyone's full and the last plate has been dried, the whole kitchen goes back where it came from and disappears neatly into the rear of the vehicle. The washing-up, though, it still won't do for anyone.
