Why and for whom a Roof Lodge LIGHTWEIGHT roof tent?
For car campers and roof tent enthusiasts, roof loads are often a (ge)important issue. If you take it lightly, you risk roof damage. But away from the play on words and towards the bare figures, because the trend is clear: the average dynamic roof loads of vehicles are falling. While the G-Class with 200 kg and the new Defender with up to 168 kg are still solid values, things go downhill pretty quickly after that. Even a new Land Cruiser J150 Prado only manages 80 kilos, and in the normal passenger car segment the average is closer to 60 kilos, with a downward trend. In addition to changes in vehicle statics due to lightweight construction and electrification, the increased use of sensors and assistance systems is probably responsible for this. And even if the values for a stationary vehicle are of course considerably higher, the critical range for commercially available roof tents is approaching.
At Nakatanenga, we are reacting to this development at an early stage and have therefore developed the Roof Lodge Lightweight, an ultra-light roof tent which, with a total weight of only approx. 46 kg, weighs a record low on the scales or the car roof. Of course, there are no restrictions on the space, comfort and weather protection you are used to from our Roof Lodges. How does it work?
What is the difference between the LIGHTWEIGHT roof tent and our EVOLUTION 2 folding tents?

First of all, we use 100% Oxford nylon with ripstop for the skin of the Lightweight, an extremely strong but surprisingly light material that weighs in at only 102 g/m2. Compared to the 320 g/m2 on our Evolution 2, this is a reduction of a whopping 78%. The fabric of the tent skin and the sun awning of the Lightweight are identical, PU-coated on the inside and impregnated on the outside. This means that no compromises are made in terms of wind and rain protection.
How can weight be saved on the roof when travelling with the roof tent?
Further weight can be saved on the Roof Lodge Lightweight by choosing the mattresses. As an alternative to our one-piece standard foam mattress (60 mm, approx. 5 kg) and the optional 3D mesh mattress (approx. 3.5 kg), we also offer a self-inflating Kampa mattress with a thickness of 10 cm and a weight of approx. 5.5 kg. The 10 cm thickness of the air mattress has been chosen so that, with a lower total weight, a comparable lying comfort and similar insulation properties to the combination of foam mattress with mesh underlay are given.
Last but not least, the aluminium ladder can be removed and transported inside the car, which reduces both the roof load and the overall height of the vehicle. On car ferries, for example, 10 cm less height can often make a money-saving difference.
Anyone who would like to go on a road trip with their own roof tent in times of limited contact, but does not have heavy four-wheel drive vehicles and would like to experience this adventurous way of travelling in the best sense of the word with station wagons, SUVs and even smaller cars up to hatchbacks, will be delighted with the Roof Lodge Lightweight.

Merino not only warms but also cools in hot weather and that’s due to the micro structure of the ultra-fine curly fibers in the fleece. They absorb high amounts of moisture and release it quickly back to the air. Effective condensation thus cools your skin and leaves you with a pleasant feeling when wearing the socks. The experience of comfort and wellbeing is still increased by the fact that Merino wool doesn’t itch and that it smells less (and later) than other materials due to the fiber’s antibacterial properties.

You made your bed, now lie in it! Taken literally, the old saying holds especially true in the Great Outdoors, whether it’s “just” a short camping trip, a long overland trek or an expedition. Good sleep and hence physical recovery can make a crucial if not life-saving difference in challenging conditions. Very often, though, picking a good outdoor mattress or sleeping pad ranks only a distant second behind the choice of the sleeping bag. But experience shows, if you have a good tent or vehicle to sleep in, that approach is most likely the wrong way around. In fairly sheltered conditions, the right mattress can make more of a difference to a good night’s sleep.
For their range of Kip Highrise mattresses, UK brand Kampa promise sleeping comfort “like your own bed”. Big words, convincingly backed up by a 10 cm die-cut and open-cell foam core. This structure guarantees that the mattress will accommodate for the sleeper’s body shape and will insulate extremely well from low ground temperatures. The soft and slip resistant stretch-comfort surface is luxurious and inviting. So, if nights out camping make you think of yesteryear’s rubbery, squeaky and bouncy air mattresses, you couldn’t be more wrong. With the deep and comfy Kip Highrise, you can rest easy, literally, even when you have company. A useable sleeping surface of 201 x 128 cm is achieved by vertical sidewalls, just as with your “proper” bedroom mattress at home. That makes for sufficient and cozy space for two sleepers. In addition, the firmness of the mattress can be finetuned by adding air while setting the valves to “Inflate Only”.

The basic version of the roof awning comes with two side panels. If you want to turn the awning into an enclosed storage area that is protected on all sides, you can order the two additional side sections here.
Like the side walls already included with the awning, the two additional tarpaulins are made of high-quality, PU-coated RipStop polycotton, a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Our warm Nakasox for winter feature the same combination of natural Merino wool and synthetics as our lighter summer or 3-season socks. Especially in winter, thermal regulation is most important. The idea behind our DABUCKETS is quite simple. The flexible bins are made from 100% Nylon / Polyamide with PU coating which creates a tough and watertight second layer to hold standard size bin liners or garbage bags. This is our popular Muurinpohjapannu with upgrade. Basically, Muurinpohjapannu always includes 3 bolt-on steel feet. The steel feet are suitable for cooking on an open fire. However, since you can not grill everywhere with wood and may this grill plate is supplied with 3 additional screw-on feet made of aluminum. With these feet, the plate can also be operated with a gas cooker. For this purpose, the delivery includes mounting clamps for the stove and a windscreen. The aluminum feet are adjustable in two different sizes. The "longer" feet are also a comfortable grilling while standing allows. With the aid of the three fixing clamp, the gas cooker can be fixed to the plate and the windbreak ensures that the gas flame is always well protected.

A kingdom for a shower, in the middle of nowhere!
No worries, we’ve been on the case and this is what we‘ve come up with: A mounted shower unit for overlanders, campers and adventurers. Nakatanenga shower tubes are attached to the side of a CargoBear or any other roof rack. You fill it with the amount of water you need, pressurize the tank with air to guarantee consistent water flow and off you go. During the day, the tube’s black PE material provides free solar off-grid heating for the water, no energy input required, no CO2 emissions. Isn’t that just great at the end of a tough day?
The shower tubes come in three sizes – 1,240, 2,100 und 2,750 mm – respectively giving you volumes of 9.4, 17.5 and 23.7 l. We deliver the tubes with CargoBear mounting brackets, tap, handheld shower head and spiral hose pipe. You can attach your own accessories to the ½” connector, of course. The shower tubes is a really neat solution for all your muddy outdoor hobbies, too. How often have you wished you could just quickly hose down clothes, boots, sports equipment or pets before getting into the 4x4 or loading it up? We know.
Since the tubes are not equipped with safety valves, we recommend using regular bicycle hand or foot pumps to pressurize them. Manually created pressure will be perfectly sufficient to create a constant flow of water.

Our Nakatanenga Bear loves to scrub up and keeps everything neat, tidy and protected. That’s why we are introducing our own hanging wash bag with the bear logo on it, for travel, outdoor and camping. Everything else out there hasn’t really done it for us, so we made some key improvements to the most important details and put them all in one cool roll!
Advantage #1 for our Nakatanenga toiletry bag: lots of mesh! We’re using great amounts of mesh material especially in the interior zip bag area, so that the wash roll can dry off quickly after you’ve been to a tiny wet room. If your shampoo or deodorant has leaked again, you can quickly rinse the mesh in a sink or basin. The wash bags exterior is Nylon PU-coated and therefore extremely robust, easy to clean and water resistant.
Advantage #2: our firm G-hook! Even brand wash bags often sport these cheap round hooks that come off with the slightest movement or push. As a result, your personal hygiene items are too often scattered on less than appealing bathroom floors. Our G-hook closes the rolled-up wash bag tightly and you can also use it to hang the bag securely in windy or cramped places. We also enclose a hooked suction cup to firmly fix the bag to smooth surfaces like tiles or glass.
Advantage #3: Roll it up! Roll beats bag, anytime, even when it comes to wash bags. Our Nakatanenga seat covers come in two varieties: one made with sustainable natural materials, the other with tough synthetics. Both cushion types are universal in their use, fold into a small bag and can be easily carried by their own handles. They have two distinct sides so that you can use them in different weather condition and surroundings just by flipping them over. One side is warm and comfy, the other one more robust, water-resistant and easy to clean. This makes these seat covers extremely versatile, not only for sitting but also as warm and protective ground covers for little ones or your furry friends.
The natural material variety is an Anglo-Bavarian combo. One side is stepped waxed cotton, as made popular by Barbour jackets, the other side is high quality natural Loden. The waxed cotton is extremely water repellant and dirt resistant. The Loden side is first and foremost warm and comfy. Due to its natural and gentle manufacturing process, the Loden still contains enough natural Lanolin from the sheep’s wool to give this material a certain degree of water resistance. DABUCKET - For everything that needs to be quickly and easily removed, stowed and transported on the way or at home, while remaining clean and tight.
The idea behind our flexible DABUCKET all-purpose bucket is very simple. You can simply put dirt in your own packsack, the plastic bag or in the trash bag as a liner in the open DABUCKET, pull the closure tunnel up and pack it away safely. That is why we have designed the two variants DABUCKET to the size of standard garbage bags: with a height of 30 cm and bottom diameter 28 cm for a 25-liter bag and 45 cm to 36 cm for the 50 liters.
The DABUCKET can be easily put on with the adjustable shoulder strap, conveniently loaded and unloaded with two handles, even when it is heavy, hanging on a hook or carabiner and can be quickly attached to keder rails, eg. from the roof tent, be edged. A large fleece area is used to fasten in the car or RV, a small flap for customization or labeling the DABUCKET with patches.

Camp fires are as old as mankind. Maybe that’s why we have such an intense relationship with open flames, glowing embers and – of course – grilled food. Hand on heart, is there anything more satisfying on a camping or weekend trip than sitting around a real fire with family and friends?
Our brand new modular fire pit with grill and skewers can be put together and packed away in no time. Plates and stands are made from 4 mm steel. They are uncoated, so that barbecuing food is absolutely safe in our Nakatangenga brazier. Moreover, the lack of paints or coatings will also allow the steel to develop a beautiful patina over time – telling the story of so many good times around the fire! The individual metal elements are precision milled and are simply slotted into each other. Once assembled, the pit’s precision engineering makes sure everything holds tightly together. And since there are neither nuts nor bolts involved, you’ll never lose any small fastening parts as with other assembly kits.
The solid short ends of the brazier include the stands and are made from a single sheet of metal each. Two feet on one end and a single one on the other create a firm tripod stand. This makes positioning the fire bowl always safe and easy, even on rough surfaces. If you have soft earth or snow, you can push the stands deep into the ground like a spade, ensuring rock solid stability. The side elements feature aeration holes to guarantee proper oxygenation for your fire or your embers. All around the top of the fire pit, you will find plenty of notches to securely place the grill or the skewers.
Last but not least, the kit also features a sturdy pack bag made of high-quality nylon, reinforced with truck tarpaulin – guaranteeing safe and comfortable transport of your disassembled fire pit. The bag’s exterior and the skewer pouch are made from easy-to-clean nylon. As always with our own in-house textile products, we make sure that all straps, buckles and seams are extra-strong. With this grill plate you can enjoy a barbecue 2.0. The usual barbecue feeling with the bonus that you can prepare far more dishes from now on. In principle, every pan dish can be prepared - no matter where you are, in the mountains, in the desert or at the campsite.
This is our popular Muurinpohjapannu with upgrade. Basically, Muurinpohjapannu always includes 3 bolt-on steel feet. The steel feet are suitable for cooking on an open fire. However, since you can not grill everywhere with wood and may this grill plate is supplied with 3 additional screw-on feet made of aluminum. With these feet, the plate can also be operated with a gas cooker. For this purpose, the delivery includes mounting clamps for the stove and a windscreen. The aluminum feet are adjustable in two different sizes. The "longer" feet are also a comfortable grilling while standing allows. With the aid of the three fixing clamp, the gas cooker can be fixed to the plate and the windbreak ensures that the gas flame is always well protected.
Any commercially available 3-leaf cooker can be used.

The Dutch Oven, often referred to simply as a pot (sic), is available here together with a sturdy tripod, a pot stand and, of course, a lid lifter. Although the pot itself is available in three sizes, we only offer it as a set in the two most popular sizes. Of course, the tripod, the lid lifter and the pot stand can also be used with the pound pot (coincidentally also the name of a very popular Dutch Oven dish - but here we mean our 12-quart pot). The pots are also particularly suitable for induction cookers, as well as for all other types (ceramic, open fire, etc.). Please select the desired size.A practical tip from Harry:Tried and tested for travelling: one of the two sets offered here! You can also attach one of these beautiful enamelled percolators to the tripod for making coffee. But be careful! Not all percolators are suitable for this type of coffee preparation! And... the handle can get devilishly hot! Our lid lifter doesn't really help here either. But if anyone knows of a practical way of using the Dutch oven lid lifter with a percolator, please let me knowWhere were we again? Exactly! With our DO sets... ideal for travelling, but probably a little undersized for a garden party. So in itself it's perfectly adequate for a garden party, but not for a G-A-R-T-E-N-P-A-R-T-Y!That's when you need our pound pot - and to supplement and round off the food base, you can always find a quick use for the smaller brother. And if you want to serve the much-quoted icing on the cake as a first aid against second hunger late at night: Take a piece of beef of your choice, it should be around 300-400 grams and nicely marbled, and it must be able to fit into the sizzle pan later (a flank steak is really tasty, but completely unsuitable for this), and put it in the oven set to around 55°C, but not immediately taken out of the fridge - preheating is superfluous, unless your G-A-R-T-E-N-P-A-R-T-Y is taking place in the Arctic Circle.There, in the oven, it can then remain for a long, really long time, but of course not until the end of time. So don't overdo it! And the following really does apply to this preparation: don't add salt! Garlic, thyme and/or rosemary add a familiar flavour, sage and coriander a less familiar but very interesting one. When your guests' appetite for a savoury or tasty treat reawakens, simply let the Sizzel Pan heat up in the embers and then place the meat inside. 45-60 seconds per side is usually sufficient and a knob of good butter should not be missing. Allow the meat to rest for a few more minutes, then cut into slices and serve, then cut into slices and serve sprinkled with salt (flakes!) and freshly ground pepper. Make sure you try it: Lemon pepper!

Our Dutch ovens can be used over an open fire, on the barbecue, on the hob and also in the kitchen oven. We have deliberately opted for pots without legs, as these can be stored in a more space-saving way and can also be used in the normal kitchen. And by the way: At Nakatanenga, we only use materials with 100% nylon PU coating for all textile articles. Nylon PU (polyurethanes) is, unlike PVC, free from harmful phthalate-based plasticizers. Low molecular weight phthalates were until recently the most common plasticizers for plastics of all kinds and are even used in food and cosmetics. However, they accumulate in the environment and are due to their molecular nature suspected of acting as the body's own hormones. This is toxicologically highly questionable and is considered the trigger for various diseases, including cancer. For Nakatanenga, it goes without saying that when it comes to coating textile products, it is only possible to use environmentally friendly and harmless alternatives such as nylon PU.
