Nakatanenga merino summer socks

The amount of praise and positive feedback we’ve received really knocked our socks off! We are talking about our light summer socks, of course. Designing new socks is a bit like re-inventing the wheel but it seems our textile studio has really hit the spot and developed the formula for a supersock: Merino wool, performance-synthetics and first-class craftsmanship. And since our short Nakasox are flying off the shelves, we’re immediately following them with higher crew socks. Off-roaders, outdoor types and people who still do an honest day’s work prefer boots. They appreciate the stability around the ankle and the protection when romping around in the field. But that comes with a price because wearing a boot requires a crew sock. If you don’t want to experience subsequent hot flashes and puddles of sweat when wearing boots in the summer, we recommend our lightweight, high shaft Merino crew socks for comfort and good stability. Merino is the perfect base layer for our socks because the supersheep’s fleece is nature’s air conditioning. It warms in the cold but also cools in hot weather and that’s due to the micro structure of the ultra-fine curly fibers in the fleece. They absorb high amounts of moisture and release it quickly back into the air. Effective condensation thus cools your skin and leaves you with a pleasant feeling when wearing the socks. The experience of comfort and wellbeing is still increased by the fact that Merino wool doesn’t itch and that it smells less (and later) than other materials due to the fiber’s antibacterial properties. Specially selected high-performance synthetics turn the Nakatanenga sock into a proper athlete, because polypropylene, elastane und polyamide components in the fabric ensure that the natural wool doesn’t get too strained by rubbing, chafing and stretching, especially in the summer when there is high demand from activities like working or hiking. The synthetics reduce wear and tear and keep the socks elastic and in shape. With thin summer socks, the areas around the toes and the heel are especially vulnerable for chafing or rubbing through due to higher mechanical stress created by your foot’s motion in the shoe. That’s why we have strengthened these zones with a soft plush fabric. So, off with your old socks and get some Nakasox! Nakatanenga merino winter socks

Winter is coming and our super-warm ¾-length Nakatanenga winter socks are the perfect preparation for cold, wet and action in snow and ice. There’s an endless discussion amongst athletes and outdoor specialists what’s more important, shoes or socks, but fact is that the right choice of socks is key to comfort, health and performance, especially in the cold season. What good are the best of boots when your socks are not warming you, stay constantly damp and clammy or rub and chafe? Our warm Nakasox for winter feature the same combination of natural Merino wool and synthetics as our lighter summer or 3-season socks. Especially in winter, thermal regulation is most important. Merino, the supersheep’s natural air conditioning system, does a fantastic job even during highly demanding activities like snowboarding or skiing. The fleece fibers’ microstructure allows for fast wicking of moisture and efficient condensation. Sweating is reduced and hence the dangers of hypothermia. The warm and dry Nakasox-feeling is further enhanced by the general comfort provided by the material’s touch and feel. Merino doesn’t itch and its antimicrobial properties also mean that your socks don’t smell as easily (or quickly) as with other materials. Especially when wearing them in boots or for sports activities, a perfect fit and elasticity are what you’re looking for in a sock. A special combination of performance synthetics and the anatomical design mean that Nakasox will stay in perfect shape even during and after heavy mechanical stress. Soles and heels are padded and a thinner weave between bridge and shin make vertical movements as in hiking or cross-country skiing more comfortable. Well-fitted and elastic socks don’t slip and slide and give your feet a better overall fit inside your boots. After long and action-packed days in the mountains, the probability that you’ll experience chafing and blisters is greatly reduced. Nakatanenga Muff for cosy, warm hands In the winter and on cold days in general, there are many occasions when gloves or mittens are not really practical because you need to use your hands off and on. This applies especially to activities where you keep still or move only slowly for longer periods of time, like winter sports events as a spectator, slow walks, visits to Christmas markets or aurora safaris in the far North. Or think about those outdoor pursuits that require the fine motor skills of your hands and fingers, as in hunting or ice fishing for example. The ideal place to warm your hands in these situations is not your coat pocket but a super warm and practical muff. Our muffs are manufactured in our very own textile shop from best quality 1000D Nylon material. They sport an interior Polar Fleece lining and an intermediate wadding layer to create extremely efficient insulation that will warm your hands really quickly. On both ends, we’ve sewn in drawstrings to prevent cold air entering through the openings. With a length of 42 cm and a diameter of roughly 13 cm, you can almost fit the whole length of your underarms into the muff. Holding it in place is a sturdy strap that can be adjusted for all sizes and positions. In addition, we’ve also attached a MOLLE fleece to the front, for patches and small accessories. This muff is the ideal winter companion for every man and – most of all – every woman!

Luckily, modern synthetic high-performance threads make these circumstances much less precarious as the phrase suggests. So why not rely on strings or cords made from such threads in your wilderness adventures? If you regularly encounter extreme outdoor conditions in your hobby or your job, you need light, durable and multi-purpose equipment which gives you the most performance per pound. Apart from a good knife, a length of good string is part of the absolute essentials in Bushcraft. Among other things, our Survival Cord will help you (in alphabetical order) to attach, carry, clean, dress wounds, fasten, fish, girdle, guide, hang, hunt, label, patch, repair, rig, save, saw, secure, signal, splice, splint, thread, tie, tow, trap, warn, weave and much, much more. The Nakatanenga cord sports a Kernmantle-style structure, an extremely light yet highly tearproof synthetic material, which, incidentally, we also use in our heavy duty winch cables. But in contrast to these ropes, the Survival Cord is only an astonishing 1.7 mm thin, while still boasting a breaking load of incredible 250 kg. That is more or less the weight for standard survival paracords, which in turn are usually more than twice as thick, though. Carry our Nakatanenga cord with you and it’ll be a load off your mind. You can use the 33 m length of string in your survival pouch or backpack to weave a thicker rope for emergencies. Mechanic Tarp No plan without a tarp! You need them every now and then when you're on the road and often only have some poor makeshift solutions to hand: fraying fabric sheets, crumbling rubber mats, old carpets. That's bad! As we are known for not doing things by halves, our in-house tailoring department has come up with a multi-purpose tarpaulin that can really be used universally, again and again and in all situations: under the car, on the beach, at the shooting range or even on the yoga lawn - no problem at all. The Nakatanenga tarp made from lorry tarpaulin is robust, practical and well thought-out. PVC-coated polyester fabric makes it extremely tear-resistant, waterproof and UV-resistant. Rustproof eyelets are used at the corners to allow fastening with straps or elasticated cords. This means that our universal tarpaulin can also quickly be used as a windscreen cover for the winter. It is guaranteed to be cleaned quickly after use under the oil pan or a baby's bottom when changing nappies. The flexible material can be rolled up small and stowed away to save space in the car, bag or rucksack. The drawstring straps are sewn in, as is the carry handle. So nothing gets lost. Famously, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad preparation, if we may extend the scope of the old saying. In any case, you’re well prepared for all sorts of situations if you carry one of our Nakatanenga multifunctional covers in your car. One side is covered in an insulating aluminum thermal foil, the other is made from PU coated, stepped nylon, making it a perfect multi-purpose cover. Especially when it’s cold or wet or both. The material is extremely robust, water-repellent and easy to clean.

In winter, it makes the perfect windshield cover, especially for SUV’s or 4x4’s. With ample dimensions of 162 x 86 cm the mat features on the nylon side 6 firmly sewn-in d-rings made from sturdy plastic. You simply attach the included rubber straps, your own elastic cords and fasten them to mirrors or other structural features. The insulated aluminum side sports 5 cm wide and 20 cm long nylon straps that are meant to be trapped in the door frame. That way nothing will shift or be blown away by the wind overnight. In the morning everyone will appreciate a snow and ice-free windshield.

The mat also does an excellent job at other times of the year or on other occasions. In summer, it reduces the heating of the inside of the car and is also the perfect base: as a picnic blanket for the damp meadow or as a place for the four-legged friend to lie down, for sports, outdoor activities or repairs in the field as well as the cosy round at the campfire. Simply spread out, lie nice and warm and dry and finally fold along the quilting after use and stow away. As always with our textile products from our own production, the cover is made of robust materials, solidly sewn and free of harmful plastics.
