Compressed gauze Whether it’s your first aid kit in your car, the locker in your workshop or an emergency pouch in your backpack: sterile gauze is often your first choice when treating wounds and other injuries and should therefore always be quickly accessible in necessary amounts and immaculate medical condition. This classic wound dressing commonly acts as an absorbent for blood and other wound secretions and prevents dirt or pathogens from entering your bloodstream. Our gauze is made from 6 layers of extremely absorbent surgical fabric and comes folded and compressed inside robust, vacuum-sealed Aluminum bags. Israeli Bandage The most important thing for first aid in life-threatening accidents is education, regular training and quick access to suitable equipment. This applies both to rescuing others and to self-care for your own injuries if help is far away. There is a good chance of survival even in the case of injuries with severe bleeding if action is taken quickly and purposefully. First aid in the first 5 minutes and the so-called ‘golden hour’, when the injured person should be in the hands of medical personnel at the latest, are crucial. A good pressure bandage is often enough to give the injured person the necessary time to receive medical treatment. The so-called Israeli Bandage is an emergency pressure bandage that can also be applied to oneself with one hand. It was developed by an Israeli military doctor for use in combat and has since been used by the US Army and many other armed forces. The Israeli bandage is made of sterile pressure bandage material with a sewn-in plastic clip and fastening hook. This system can be used to stop bleeding quickly and effectively, even in the case of self-inflicted injuries. The bandage material is inserted into the bracket after wrapping and then tightened by pulling in the opposite direction. The wrapping is then continued and fixed at the end with the sewn-in fastening hooks. In contrast to the tourniquet, this means that parts of the body other than the limbs can also be treated. The Israeli Bandage is an indispensable item for all first aid kits, especially if you are exposed to major injury risks at work or as a hobby. If you would like to put together a trauma first aid kit, you will also find a TCCC tourniquet for tying off bleeding limbs here. NOTE: The application of emergency pressure dressings should be practised regularly so that you can react safely and quickly in an emergency - preferably in conjunction with first aid courses.

Tourniquet, ligation system When it comes to first aid after life-threatening accidents, the most important things to have are training, regular practice and quick access to proper first response equipment. This holds true for rescuing others as well as treating one’s own injuries if help is far away. Even with the most traumatic injuries, there is a great chance for survival if correct measures are taken immediately. The initial 5 minutes after the injury are crucial for first response, as is the so-called “golden hour” in which an injured person should then be delivered into professional medical care. In the 1990s, based on the requirement of special forces operations where paramedics are often not present and injured personnel has to be airlifted to receive medical care, the American military developed the TCCC Tactical Combat Casualty Care first response concept. TCCC enables everyone to administer first aid to heavily injured persons and give them the valuable time until professional medical help is available. TCCC is specifically designed to include one’s own injuries. An important item in any TCCC kit is a tourniquet, a high-pressure bandage to prevent fatal blood loss from extremities with arterial bleeding. In a civilian context, if your work or hobby carries a risk of severe injuries to your arms and legs, you should have a tourniquet in your first aid or trauma kit. This applies to accidents caused by machinery, timber or forestry work, hunting, motorsports, expeditions and many other activities. The tourniquet is non-sterile and can be applied with two hands to other people and single-handedly to your own injuries, ideally 2-4 inches above the wound. The tourniquet consists of a super-strong band and solid buckles to hold it firmly in place before pressure is applied. While other products often feature plastic windlass rods, this one is made from aluminum for extra strength and stability when tightening the device. The exact time of setting can be noted on the cuff for further care. If you want to put a trauma kit together, you should also consider an Israeli bandage to control heavily bleeding injuries and a vented chest seal to apply to penetrating, open chest wounds. CAUTION: In order to execute first aid procedures effectively and safely, the techniques for applying emergency dressings or bandages like a TCCC tourniquet should be practiced regularly – ideally in connection with first aid courses.

Survival cord 1.7 mm, 4 different colors „His life was hanging by a thread” – everybody knows the phrase to describe situations where survival is at stake. Luckily, modern synthetic high-performance threads make these circumstances much less precarious as the phrase suggests. So why not rely on strings or cords made from such threads in your wilderness adventures? If you regularly encounter extreme outdoor conditions in your hobby or your job, you need light, durable and multi-purpose equipment which gives you the most performance per pound. Apart from a good knife, a length of good string is part of the absolute essentials in Bushcraft. Among other things, our Survival Cord will help you (in alphabetical order) to attach, carry, clean, dress wounds, fasten, fish, girdle, guide, hang, hunt, label, patch, repair, rig, save, saw, secure, signal, splice, splint, thread, tie, tow, trap, warn, weave and much, much more. The Nakatanenga cord sports a Kernmantle-style structure, an extremely light yet highly tearproof synthetic material, which, incidentally, we also use in our heavy duty winch cables. That is more or less the weight for standard survival paracords, which in turn are usually more than twice as thick, though. Swiss Pioneer Pick with Bag It’s not only watches and pocket knives that the Swiss do really, really well, they also know a thing or two about cruder tools. This pickaxe for example is used by the Swiss army engineer corps and it’s both extremely well-made and versatile. You can use it for all kinds of outdoor activities, as off-road equipment and much more. The forged steel head offers a point and a flat blade for all kinds of digging work required in a camp, e.g. making a fire pit, digging rain trenches around your tent or cracking ice in winter. When compared to a foldable army spade, this traditional pick offers considerable advantages. Especially on very hard or stony ground, digging with a folding spade is often difficult or even impossible. The army spade’s folding hinges limit the force that can be exerted and they also tend to get damaged or worn-out. In contrast, the pickaxe’s simple design means that the physical force is concentrated on a very small area at the tip or the blade. That makes the pickaxe your tool of choice, especially when it comes to harder surfaces. And besides, most outdoor digging tasks don’t involve removing huge amounts of soil. In most cases, loosening and scraping will suffice and for that the Swiss army pick is ideal.
